Myth Busters #5: “ABA doesn’t work for my child.”

If you’ve ever felt this way, you’re not alone. And you’re not wrong to question things—because when it comes to your child’s growth, asking the tough questions matters.

But here’s the truth: ABA isn’t a one-size-fits-all formula. It’s a dynamic, adaptable approach grounded in science—and it’s designed to change as your child does.

So what happens when it doesn’t seem to be working?

  • It doesn’t mean your child is “uncooperative.”

  • It doesn’t mean ABA has failed.

  • It does mean it’s time to adjust the plan.

Every child is different. ABA recognizes that. It relies on ongoing data collection and observation—not just to measure progress, but to refine strategies. If a method isn’t clicking, your therapist should shift gears, try new tools, and adapt goals to better suit your child’s learning style, preferences, and pace.

And if you’re not seeing that responsiveness from your current provider? It’s okay to seek a second opinion or find a team that better aligns with your child’s needs.

Because at its best, ABA is not rigid. It’s responsive. Flexible. Evolving. And with the right approach, it can help uncover your child’s potential—one step at a time.

Not all ABA is created equal. At Project I, we take pride in our individualized, evolving approach that respects your child’s pace and personality. Through our 1:1 Consultations and collaborative goal-setting, we work with families—not just for them.👉 Reach out for a consult and let’s find what works for your child, together.
