Myth #4: “ABA is about making people conform to social norms.”

This myth stems from outdated, one-size-fits-all approaches—and it misses the mark entirely.
At Project I, ABA isn’t about conformity. It’s about choice, expression, and empowerment.
Our goal is never to “normalize” someone’s behavior to fit society’s expectations. Instead, we use ABA to support individuals in navigating the world on their own terms—with confidence, dignity, and self-awareness.
Here’s what that looks like in action:
Self-advocacy through communication
ABA helps individuals learn to communicate their needs, preferences, and boundaries—whether through speech, signs, or devices. This isn’t about teaching “the right way” to talk. It’s about making sure they’re heard.
Navigating conflict and connection
We teach skills like negotiation, perspective-taking, and emotional regulation, so individuals can manage social dynamics with clarity and self-respect—not to blend in, but to thrive in interactions that matter to them.
Celebrating identity, not suppressing it
Every learner is unique. Our programs are tailored to preserve and nurture that individuality—helping them engage with the world in a way that feels authentic and safe, not rehearsed or performative.
The truth is, ABA is not about making people “fit in.” It’s about giving them tools to stand tall—to be themselves, to connect meaningfully, and to make informed choices about how they engage with the world.
At Project I, we honour neurodiversity and support individuality. Our 1:1 Consultations and Parent Training sessions are designed to help families and caregivers nurture skills that promote self-expression, emotional well-being, and agency—not compliance.👉 Schedule a consult or explore our services to learn how we support confident, authentic growth.
